    Mother’s Day at the Zoo

Joy mentioned that there was a Living Social deal for a San Diego Zoo Safari Park for $22 (50% off) and with Mother’s Day around the corner we bought 4. It was going to be a hot weekend so we picked up my parents at 7:30 in the morning to get there by their opening at 9:00am. By the time we arrived the temperature was into the mid 80°s. When we arrived they told us about Bike Race going on that day that would close the parking lot from 11-12pm and you wouldn’t be allowed to leave during that time. We stood inline to exchange our Living Social tickets, until i read the…

    New York Recap

This week was really interesting and pretty eye opening when it came to New York life. Of all the other times i’ve gone was strictly for vacation, with no real schedule, and things planned out day by day. This week Jonathan and I were on a pretty normal schedule getting into work around 9am, grabbing lunch at noon, and out of the office by 5pm. This was actually pretty nice since it gave us some purpose everyday, because after work we were always lost with what to do. It usually started with looking for something to eat (since we were in no position to actually cook), which led up to…

    Brunch is a Thing

This week i’m i New York with Jonathan to finish up a project for a client. We took the red-eye flight Saturday night and arrived Sunday morning. The company we’re working for reserved a towncar for us to take us to their condo that they own in the city. We didn’t know that we would be sharing it with other people, and so we thought it was initially awkward so we left to explore the city. We started out by getting some coffee and bagels, and searched for a place that Jon could go get a hair cut and shave. Afterwards we headed down to SOHO to check out some…

Maui Grindz – Food around the Island

There were many places that we ended up eating, some good, some ok, but nothing horrible. Of course the first day we had Da Kitchen, and Star Noodle. Here is the rest of our eats on our trip. The Cliff Dive Bar   While the family is on the beach or snorkeling around Black Rock, The Cliff Dive Bar at the Sheraton is the perfect place to grab a drink. The seats along the edge have a perfect view of the people diving off Black Rock into the water. We snacked on a huge plate of nachos that is easily sharable with four or more people. Full bar to get…

    Around the Island of Maui

I always makes lists of things to do beyond what i think is actually possible but i find i’m happier traveller if i’m never left to wonder what else there is to do. Even with only 3 full days on the island i think we were able to do quite a bit. Sunday afternoon we headed to the far west part of the island to attempt to go snorkeling at Honolua Bay. When we got there it was a bit tricky to find where to park and find the beach (we never did). We stopped along a bluff and checked out the scene and saw that the beach was pretty rocky and…

    Return to Kaanapali

During our trip in Maui we spent the majority of our time at Kaanapali Beach just north of Lahaina. We spent two afternoons lounging underneath umbrellas, drinking some beers and just relaxing. Nina brought along two pairs of snorkel gear so each couple took turns using them to swim around Black Rock and look at all the fish. The real excitement happened both days when a few turtles decided to swim close to shore. There was one that was swimming back out to the ocean and swam underneath Joy which surprised her and freaked her out for a second. Far out into the ocean there were some humpback whales passing by,…

    Lahaina Morning

Saturday morning I was up early because of the two hour time difference with PST and the kid was up with me. We hung out and watched a little Lilo and Stitch until the sun rose. Once the sun peaked up over Haleakala all the early risers headed out the small beach just a few feet from our house. Kaylee wasn’t so happy about the loud crashing waves, but the adults had fun in the cold sand and had a little fun with some stop action photography. For breakfast we always have to go get some McDonald’s Local Breakfast, and we made it worth it by running the 1.8 miles…

    Family Time in Hawaii

Its been almost three years since my last trip to the islands and finally we were able to coordinate it with the sister, along with jason and jia and booked a trip to Maui. We got a 3 bedroom, 3 bath vacation rental at the Puanama Resort just a few miles away from Lahaina. It also coincided with Joy and my 4th Wedding Anniversary so as custom we celebrated with family. Joy and I arrived on Friday first and picked up our rental van for the week from Alamo and headed to Da Kitchen for a late lunch which is just 5 minutes away from the airport. We ordered the Fried Spam Musubi,…

    Vegas Birthdays

Early in October Jonathan asked if i could go to Vegas for his birthday (and to celebrate Thomas and mine) on the first weekend of November but with Shelly’s wedding that weekend i had to decline. Towards the end of the month we talked again and Janelle said i could just go Friday and fly back on Saturday and with a little thought i figured it was totally possible. So i logged on to Spirit Air and got myself a $38 flight from LAS to LAX. Friday morning Jonathan picked me up and we headed out to Vegas and got there in a quick 4 hours and met up with…

    Last Days in Venice

After a week of travelling through Italy it was time to end out trip in Venice. We only had planned a day and a half in Venice, and it was plenty for what we wanted to do. We didn’t even stay on the island and instead stayed mainland at Mestre which is only a 15 minute bus ride away. Once on the island you’re pretty much on your own as there are no free maps and really you don’t need one unless you have somewhere other than St. Mark’s Square or the Rialto Bridge to go to. Throughout the island are signs pointing to those two spots and while you may still…

    The Other Sides of Florence

Day two we woke up and took advantage of our Hotel Casci included breakfast of eggs, pastries, and cappuccino machine to fill up before heading out for the day. My sister had stayed at the same location and had so much fun with their egg cooker, and we made use of it as well making some soft boiled eggs to eat with our toast. We had a morning reservation for the Uffizi Gallery where the Birth of Venus painting lives. The room where the painting lives was sort of dark so i decided not to even try getting a picture of the painting. The museum had a history of paintings of Mary…

Hanging out with David in Firenze

After two full days in Touristland it was time for us to get out of Rome and take the train  to Florence. We booked 1st class seats for both of our trains to Florence and Venice which was pretty fun with the free sparkling wine and super comfy seats next to the window. We arrived into Florence around noon and checked into our our B&B which ended up being super convient to everywhere we were going. Although still touristy, Florence still has some charm which i understand why most people said it was their favorite city in Italy. We quickly found a popular eatery Trattoria Mario, that was crowded and…
