    Celebratory Dinner

During Joy’s maternity leave we discussed her changing jobs. Her current job has worked out so well for us with Alice’s drop off schedule and relative ease of her current position it was more of just a thought than reality. That was until about two weeks ago when a directors position at another hospital opened up where someone else she knew worked at. She got recommend, went for an interview and a week later was offered a position there. So now she’ll be heading up the social services department of a hospital in Culver City. We’re both pretty excited and nervous about the change since now we’ll have to do…

    Night on the Town

Saturday marked the first day of summer, and it just so happened to be Joy and my first real date night since Alice came into our lives. My mother was kind enough to spend the night at our house to watch over little Alice while we got to head out sans diaper bag. A month ago Jonathan Gold released his 101 Best Restaurants of LA and had Providence as its #1 restaurant. A few weeks later Providence announced the reopening  and a special nine year anniversary four course dinner special for the month of June so i jumped online and made RSVP for the 21st. We got up to LA with a…

    Mad Tea Party

Saturday afternoon we celebrated the upcoming arrival of the Mani-Chan baby at Tiffany’s aunt’s house in Bel Air. It was the first time i got to go through those gates located just north of the UCLA campus, and i was mildly unimpressed by what i found there. What i did find was pretty much an ordinary track homes lined with lots of benz, bmws, and bentleys. Of course the entire backyard was decorated from heads to tail (Tiffany’s a event planner of course) and a catering staff constantly adding new items to the buffet table. We got there early and enjoyed the peace and quiet before everyone else arrived, and…

    Disaster Kit

I’ve been procrastinating in putting together my emergency zombie survival kit, but with this dramatic change in temperature i thought well its earthquake weather and started forming a small on the run type kit. I got the basics of a emergency kit from ready.gov and adjusted accordingly. A basic emergency supply kit could include the following recommended items: Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both Flashlight and extra batteries First aid kit Whistle…

    Dexter

I never intended to watch Dexter, but when your friend’s text message threads only consist of a show’s references its hard not to start it up. 5 days in, and i’ve finished season 1. I generally don’t get into dramas because of the time investment and continual show flow, but i guess when you’re doing it through Netflix it makes it a lot easier to power through. The other thing is that i was worried about the gore of the show, but in reality its probably less graphic as Game of Thrones is on a show by show basis. I’ve heard various accounts of how the show progresses and where…

    Month of March

Well the first quarter of the year is done, and i barely get around to updating my personal blog much anymore. Things are happening, but things are getting into such a routine that i don’t find much interesting enough to write about. I’ll try to remember some of the more semi-interesting things that happened this month. Friends We met up with friends on the weekends to eat as best as we could. Dinner at Sizzler with the Wangs. Dinner at Buca Di Beppo pre-baby with Tony & May Hanging out with Brock at Lyric’s 5th birthday party. Cougars With Alice around now, i decided to stop playing in my Whittier…

    Jury Duty

Last wednesday i was called in for Jury Duty once again. This was my fourth time being summoned and 3rd time to the Compton Courthouse, and was ready to serve if needed be. I showed up in the morning, went through morning roll call and went for an hour break. When we came back at 10am i was ready to head to a court room and sit through all the proceedings, but when it came time to be sent the clerks said all the courts filled out their jury and none of us were needed for the day. I’m 4 for 4 on not being on a jury.

    20 Pushups

This year instead of a yearly resolution i decided to go with monthly goals. I figured it forced me to make smaller challenges and its nice to be able to see things progress at a faster pace. For January i told myself that I had to get back to reading so i finished another zombie book, Day by Day Armageddon which was the second volume of a book i read a few years ago and a easy read. The second challenge was to do 20 push ups. I know its not much but i really got to work on my upper body strength somewhere. Next month i’m looking to hit…

    3 Hour Blocks

As you can imagine not much has been happening really to talk about since Alice takes up most of my time. I’ve gone back to work semi-full time, and getting used to living in 3 hour blocks as thats about the time between feedings. Days are starting to blend into each other, and i can’t remember if its Monday or Thursdays on any given day. This past weekend i had gotten up for a 5am feeding and just stayed up. Thankfully my sister was up around the same time and she setup a Nike Running App Challenge to run a total of 30 miles in 30 days. This got me…

    Cirque du Soleil | TOTEM

I’m glad that i’m still getting some benefits to being a Yelp Elite. This month i got tickets to the preview night of TOTEM down in San Pedro. I wasn’t sure if we were going to make it because how busy work has been, but thankfully i got off at a normal hour and we drove south to check out the show. This would be our second Cirque du Soleil show (Zumanity being the other) and a good distraction from the week. Probably the ost amazing thing was that i didn’t fall asleep in the middle of it. We arrived a little late because of dinner but when we got…

    oh Baby Shower

Only five more weeks until Alice decides to join the world and it was time for Joy to have her baby shower. It was a super fun afternoon at Liberty Park but of course with 100 adults and kids it was hard to really spend time with everyone. I’m just glad i was able to see some friends who i haven’t seen in a while. My mom helped out getting the rest of the picnic area setup. Joy’s friends did a great job of setting up the dessert table, while Joy and I baked cupcakes and cococnut macarons. Too bad both Joy and I were running around from friend to family…

    Yelp Tropical Sunsets

Monday evening Joy and I went to another Yelp Elite event, but this time down at the Redondo Beach Cheesecake Factory. It was nice to have an event where we didn’t need to take a freeway to, and of course with lots of food and drinks. Yelp was promoting the Cheesecake Factory’s reception hosting abilities which were actually pretty good, but i’m not sure how much it would cost. There’s a second floor with a great view of the harbor, and the food wasn’t that bad. They really know how to fry their food which is always a plus when alcohol is being served. I tested out my peanut allergy…
