    Disaster Kit

I’ve been procrastinating in putting together my emergency zombie survival kit, but with this dramatic change in temperature i thought well its earthquake weather and started forming a small on the run type kit. I got the basics of a emergency kit from ready.gov and adjusted accordingly.

A basic emergency supply kit could include the following recommended items:

    • Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
    • Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
    • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both
    • Flashlight and extra batteries
    • First aid kit
    • Whistle to signal for help
    • Dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
    • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
    • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
    • Manual can opener for food
    • Local maps
    • Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger

Here are some of the things that i bought:

Condor Compact Assault Pack (Olive Drab, 1362-Cubic Inch)

    backpack

I chose this backpack because it was small and had lots of pockets to sort all the stuff i’m going to stuff into it.

Ambient Weather WR-333-U Emergency Solar Hand Crank Weather Alert Radio, Flashlight, Smart Phone Charger, AC and DC Adaptors

    emergency-radio
I was really excited about this radio as is powered by a rechargeable battery which you can power through a AC plug, car adapter and even USB port, as well as solar powered and hand crank. It can even charge your phone. (and spare battery)

    Leatherman Sidekick Multi-Tool

    leatherman

Always need a good multi tool.

    Scooter

After reading about people getting stranded in their car during the 2014 Atlanta winter storm it got me thinking about how am i going to get home if the roads get jammed up. Its approximately seven miles from my office to my house which i could conceviably walk/run to in an hour and a half, but with our emergency plan to meet at my parents house, that goes from 7 to 20 miles and increases to almost seven hours. My solution is to at least decrease that time by putting in a Razor A5 Lux Scooter and scoot my way home.
